General description: The Division Biomedical Genetics includes five departments:
 | Cell Biology, Head Prof. Ger Strous
 | Physiological Chemistry, Head Prof. Peter van der Vliet
 | Medical Physiology, Head Prof. Marc Vos
 | Medical Genetics, Head Prof. Dick Lindhout
 | Metabolic and Endocrine Diseases, Head Prof. Ruud Berger,
and conducts fundamental research in fields of genetics and bio-informatics, e.g. gene expression, signal transduction, DNA replication, intracellular transport mechanisms, medical physiology and metabolic and endocrine diseases.
The department’s Medical Genetics and Metabolic Diseases divisions focus mainly on medical care, genetic counselling, DNA diagnostics, chromosome research and diagnostics for metabolic diseases. Within the division, projects are particularly encouraged that strengthen the cohesion among all five departments. An example is the use of medical data and samples for fundamental research or, in reverse the application of scientific results into medical care for patients. Medical and research devices are division-wide and available for all employees.
