Alain Israël's Group (»Add to Infobox)

Academic: Institut Pasteur, Paris

General description:
The group focuses on the analysis of two signaling pathways : NF-kappaB and Notch. More specifically, ex vivo approaches based on biochemical and genetic techniques are aimed at understanding the molecular details of the cascade that links membrane receptors to target genes. The approaches specifically focus on post-translational modifications (phosphorylation, ubiquitination, …) and their role in the transmission of the signal.

Role in RUBICON:
The 2 signaling pathways (NF-kappaB and Notch) are characterized by the involvement of a large number of ubiquitin-ligases which are not only required for degradation events, but also for the regulation of protein-protein interactions. In addition, although less studied, a number of deubiquitinases are involved in these regulatory events. The aim of the group is to understand the molecular details of these ubiquitination and deubiquitination events, the type of polyubiquitin chains they form (and destroy), the way these events are regulated, and the role these chains play in controling the activity of these two signaling pathways.
