General description:
Kosta is involved in studies characterizing the physiological function of the HECT ubiquitin ligase E6-AP. Mutations in the E6-AP gene have been causally associated with the Angelman syndrome (a neurological disorder). Furthermore, deregulation of E6-AP activity plays a prominent role in cervical carcinogenesis. Thus, Kosta's studies shall contribute to the elucidation and characterization of the mechanisms involved in the development of these diseases.

To identify interaction partners of E6-AP and cellular processes affected by E6-AP, Kosta is using various approaches including RNA interference, overexpression experiments with defined E6-AP mutants, and tandem affinity purification combined with mass spectrometry.
