Most of the meeting was dedicated to scientific exchange. In plenary sessions, all group leaders presented an overview on the research activities in the individual partner laboratories. Poster sessions were organised in the evenings thus providing the Rubicon Fellows and other junior project members with an opportunity to present details of their ongoing Rubicon-related research. Their experimental results and future strategies were scrutinised in the lively evening sessions over wine and cheese.
One whole afternoon was dedicated to a business meeting of the project’s Steering Committee. In this session, the first interim report of the project and all networking activities were reviewed and future activities were discussed. One important item here was the preparation for the first Annual Report and new plan for the next 18 months period.
While the Steering Committee members laid out the plan for the next period, the other meeting participants had some spare time to walk along the Arno into the city of Florence, either for sightseeing, a visit to one of the famous museums, or a short shopping trip. When the meeting was closed in the afternoon of Nov.13, all participants agreed on its success both with respect to scientific discussion and networking possibilities.
