In the framework of the RUBICON activities aimed at establishing ties and exchanges with national and European scientific communities, the Network sponsored a plenary session on the Ubiquitin/UBL system at the X annual meeting of FiSV, the Italian Federation of Life Sciences (program can be downloaded at:

http://fisv2008.azuleon.org/_proceedings/ONLI NE_PROGRAMME_080923.pdf).
FiSV is a Federation of the major Italian Scientific Societies in Life Sciences and includes 15 societies with interest in the fields of cellular biology, molecular biology, pathology, experimental oncology, genetics, biophysics, plant physiology and pathology and so on. Its annual meeting is the largest scientific convention in Italy, and it is attended by around 800 scientists, with a large representation of young researchers, who present their work in a series of parallel sessions. In addition to the parallel sessions, there are plenary symposia and main lectures in various field life sciences. This year, just to mention areas close to the interest of people working on Ub and UBLs, plenary symposia included Development and cancer, Stem cells and Health, Autophagy and apoptosis, DNA damage and degenerative disorders, Regulation of synaptic plasticity. Main lectures were delivered by prestigious international speakers, such as Enrico Cohen and Venki Ramakrishnan. The meeting is entirely held in English and around 40% of the speakers are international.

The session on the Ubiquitin/UBL system was organized by Pier Paolo Di Fiore, a member of the RUBICON network and included 4 speakers, all members of the network: Simona Polo, Frauke Melchior, Maria Masucci, and Pascal Genshink. The session received an exceptionally good attention, and helped many young scientists to be exposed to the fields of Ub and UBLs, which intersects many areas of their research.
