General description: CYTOMICS SYSTEMS is a product-driven company developing molecularly targeted small-molecule drugs that control the degradation of proteins to provide improved treatments of fungal infections and cancers. The Company sets up its laboratories in February 2003 and has vigorously pursued a program combining novel biology, medicinal chemistry and strong development skills.
To develop new antifungal drugs, CYTOMICS SYSTEMS devised a unique research strategy that relies on the control of the activity of the fungal ubiquitin system. In fungal cells, the ubiquitin pathway indeed controls the activity of important regulators and is therefore required for the viability and proliferation of pathogenic fungi. This approach allowed the company to develop new antifungal molecules who have demonstrated strong in vitro activity against a wide spectrum of pathogenic fungi and high in vivo activity against disseminated Candidiasis in mice. The company pursues the preclinical development of these compounds.
In the oncology area, CYTOMICS SYSTEMS is developing second generation proteasome inhibitors that will address toxicity and efficacy issues of Velcade, the first marketed proteasome inhibitor. The company is willing to develop two other new drug discovery programs in the field of oncology.
