General description:
Trained as a biologist, Dr Varndell was involved in the establishment and development of immunogold staining techniques at the ultrastructural level. Areas of research interest and expertise encompass immunohistochemistry, neuroendocrine pathology, and the chemical basis of neurodegenerative disease. Dr Varndell has co-authored over 50 research articles and book chapters covering subjects as diverse as nemertean physiology, millipede ecology, the ultrastructural localisation of peptides in neuroendocrine tumours, and intracellular signalling events in Alzheimer’s disease.
