Invited Speakers (in the order of talks)
Rosine Haguenauer-Tsapis, Bruno André, Alexander Sorkin, Paul Lehner, Daphne Bar Sagi, Christel Brou, Ger Strous, Sylvie Urbé, Madelon Maurice, Jon Huibregtse, Michael Glickman, Simona Polo, Tom Kerppola, David Komander and Roger Williams.
The workshop took place in the beautiful amphitheater Buffon in the new campus of the University Paris Diderot (Paris 75013).
RUBICON sponsored an international workshop of 110 participants from Israel, Europe, and USA on a focused topic: "the role of various type of ubiquitin chains in trafficking". 15 invited speakers covered diverse aspects of this field. A first session was devoted to the description of examples of proteins undergoing modification by various type of chains (transporters, receptors, MHC class I molecules, small G proteins) at various steps of their trafficking, or signalling. A second session covered examples of E2s, E3s, and DUBs involved in the control of trafficking (or signalling), and gave one example of the structural determinants of chain type specificity of a Hect E3. The 2 other sessions provided examples of technological advances in the ubiquitin field, such as the extensive information given by mass spectrometry approaches in the analysis of the ubiquitin proteome, notably following stress, or ligand treatment. New fluorescent approaches were described, that allow the visualization of sites of ubiquitylation in living cells. One talk also illuminated the exciting new data showing the specificity of some DUBs for novel type of ubiquitin chains whose synthesis was recently achieved. Finally, the structural data were shown that explain the increased affinity of some UBD of the ESCRT proteins for some ubiquitin chains.
Many new unpublished results were presented during the talks that were followed by discussions in a friendly atmosphere. Students/postdocs/researchers, including RUBICON fellows, presented 35 posters largely debated during the two-days workshop. Many participants transmitted their wish of a follow up by regular conferences covering this focus topic that is not covered in depth during the multiple ubiquitin meetings.
Additional financial support
Some financial help was provided by the Institut Jacques Monod (Paris), and EMBO Young Investigator Program. Several companies (Enzo Life Science, Promega, Euromedex) also sponsored this event.
